The Mahagastotte Estate is located in Sri Lanka’s Nuwara Eliya district, the highest region in the country at 6,200 feet above sea level. “Mahagastotte” means “place with large trees” in the local language. This area is known for its natural beauty, with scenic mountains filled with the fresh scents of cypress, eucalyptus, and wild mint.
The legend of a king’s daughter who leaped off a mountain with her forbidden lover is the source of the name “Lover’s Leap” for some Mahagastotte Estate teas. The tea leaves are compared to fine Champagne, made from grapes grown in cool climates and picked just before ripening. This gives the tea a unique character and flavour profile.
When brewed, the tea has a light coppery colour and offers a bright, medium-bodied flavour. The taste is refreshing and elegant, with a regal and lively personality. Mahagastotte Estate tea is truly a special blend, capturing the essence of its high-altitude origin.
